Sunday school is available for all school aged children during our regular service. Registration is in September of each year. Sunday School Update- Rev. Darrow There are great things happening in the Trinity Sunday School this year! We have moved to the “rotation model”, which has us looking at the same story from the Bible in a different way each week, over a 6 week period. Our first story of the year is “The miraculous catch of fish” from Luke’s Gospel, in which Jesus borrows the fishing boat belonging to Simon and his brother. Jesus uses the boat as a floating pulpit, from which he speaks to a large crowd gathered on the lakeshore. When the crowd has dispersed, Jesus asks the fishermen to take their boat out into deep water, and cast their nets. The fishermen do so, even though they had been up all night fishing, and caught nothing. The net, the boat, and the fishermen are overwhelmed by an amazing catch of fish. Simon sees God at work in Jesus, and decides to follow him. Jesus tells Simon that from then on he will be fishing for people. For the first week of Sunday School, Vesta Monk helped the children bake fish-shaped cookies. This past week, Kazie Kilius taught them how to make origami fish, using the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. These fish have been placed in the net on a huge mural that is being created on the wall in the new Sunday School room, based on an original drawing by the Rev. David Walker. On October 3, the children will paint the mural, and pose for pictures in front of it, taking roles in the story. On October 10, the children will put the finishing touches on the mural, and watch a video of the story from the movie “Jesus”, which is based on the Gospel of Luke. The rotation model works from the premise that people have more than one way of learning. We can appeal to all the senses, and provide a variety of creative experiences to teach the lessons of our faith. This model also makes it possible to have volunteers come in to join the fun of Sunday School by helping the children do something creative. You do not have to be able to teach the Bible to help with a craft, or a song, or to show them something you do as a hobby. Next Sunday, take a moment before or after worship to peek in the Sunday School room, and see for yourself what is happening!
